Is there nothing on television you want to watch? Have you missed episodes of your favorite shows due to work or family obligations? Is someone else sitting in front of the television and you do not want to watch what he or she is watching? If any of this sounds familiar, then turn on your computer. You can find every season with just a click and be laughing your heart out. On the other hand, if are in a different type of mood and want to watch Dexter or watch Nip/Tuck you will be able to season 1 and 2 of Dexter and seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Nip/Tuck.

Car manufacturers tout their efficiency. Consumer advocates dispute claims of 60-plus miles per gallon gas efficiency. Amidst the controversy, environmentalists still claim, in the absence of anything better - that hybrid vehicles are still better for the environment than their traditional gas-guzzling counterparts.

Hybrids, known for the way they combine both gas and electric power to offer a cleaner ride, have come under fire in recent months for their inability to reach gas mileage milestones set by the manufacturers. Critics say that most fail to live up to claims of getting more than 60 miles to a single gallon of gas. Advocates argue that recent studies confirm the same is true for efficiency ratings set on traditional engines, still making hybrids the better deal environmentally.

Touted as the gas-saver of the future when introduced in 1999, hybrids are known to use a fraction of the gas due to their ability to “share the burden”, with their electric motors. Full hybrid vehicles allow the electric motor to work independently of the more traditional internal combustion engine, while driving at low speeds. This in turn saves gas, and stops harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere. During an idle stop, a full hybrid actually shuts itself off, letting the electric motor take over to eliminate unnecessary idling and emissions.

Consumers should be aware, however, that the mild hybrids focus remains on traditional gas consumption, with the electric motor only assisting the gas engine at high speeds when more power is needed, thus making the mild hybrid much less environmental friendly than its full hybrid counterpart.

Great for in town drivers, the full hybrid allows slow speeding drivers to virtually use only the electric motor, thus saving even more gas, and eliminating harmful emissions into the environment.

Despite any controversy surrounding today’s hybrid vehicles, consumers seem eager to do what they can to decrease the harmful effects of emissions on the environment and save a few bucks at the pumps. Production of hybrid vehicles has tripled in the last four years, with production expected to double in 2007. The Yano Research Institute Ltd. estimates that by 2015, nearly 5.37 million hybrid vehicles will be on the global road, compared to less than one million last year.

Manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, with Honda, Toyota, Ford, Lexus and Chevrolet, all offering their own hybrid varieties. Newer models sport higher-powered and faster models, even making hybrid SUV’s and trucks available to the consumer. Of course, the heavier the vehicle, and the faster it rides, the more gas it is bound to use, despite the use and size of the internal electric motor.

Still, hybrids remain the most gas efficient and environmental friendly vehicles in mass production today.

Environmentalists love them. Consumers want them, and manufacturers are rushing to get more of them into showrooms. Hybrids are hot and getting hotter.

Wild fluctuations in gas prices have been a boom for hybrid car manufacturers. Hoping to lower gas bills, consumers are rushing to see if the new hybrids are worth the extra sticker price. It is estimated that by 2015, more than five million hybrid cars will be on the road throughout the globe, compared to less than one million just last year. Still, hybrid cars aren’t for everyone. So, what should consumers look for in a hybrid? First, you need to understand what they’re all about.

What Is A Hybrid?
A hybrid is a cross between a traditional gas powered engine and an electric one. Hybrids contain both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor with a battery backup. Traditional hybrids share both the gas and electric energy, thus making them more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. There is one thing to consider, however, when purchasing a hybrid. With two main types available (a full hybrid and a mild hybrid), consumers must decide how important the energy savings are before choosing one over the other.

Mild Hybrid: The mild hybrid vehicle uses mostly gas consumption, with the electric motor only assisting the traditional engine during higher speeds when more power is needed. Therefore, the mild hybrid relies more on gas consumption than its full-hybrid counterpart, and only offers a minimal reduction in the amount of harmful emissions being released into the atmosphere. Still, compared to traditional vehicles, benefits to the wallet and environment are seen.

Full Hybrid: The full hybrid is more in line with what consumers think of when considering a hybrid vehicle. Allowing the electric motor to work independently of the traditional engine, the full hybrid can actually run on electricity alone, saving gas and eliminating the release of many harmful emissions. During an idle stop, the full hybrid will actually shut itself off, returning power to the electric motor. Great for town driving, the full hybrid allows the electric motor to do most of the work when traveling at slower speeds. And, despite what many consumers think, neither hybrid must be “plugged in”. The car recharges itself through the internal battery pack while driving.

Why Buy A Hybrid?
Despite recent reports that warned consumers that today’s hybrids weren’t getting the gas mileage touted by manufacturers, most advocates agree that many can use as much as half the fuel as a traditional gas-guzzler. Even with newer models being manufactured bigger and heavier (thus, using more gas to run), hybrids remain economical and eco-friendly alternatives for today’s driving consumer.

They are more efficient, environmentally sound, and according to manufacturers, will soon be available in more styles for consumers to choose from. In 2007 several SUV and truck varieties have already been unveiled.

Their popularity is undeniable. Manufacturing for the hybrid has tripled in the last four years in the United States alone, with production expected to double again this year.
